René Laporte developed Domaine Laporte in Saint-Satur in 1850 and ran it until 1986, producing low-yield, high-quality Sancerre during a time of overproduction.

The other side of this partnership, a Chavignol winegrower, Henri Bourgeois, bought the domain from René, keeping the old vineyard, cellar, and house and maintaining the excellent reputation. Henri Laporte's two grandsons, Arnaud and Cedric Bourgeois, are now in charge of Domaine Laporte, one of the most prestigious estates in the Loire Valley.

The wines at Laporte is produced in a very traditional, natural way, employing organic techniques and always ensuring a certain sense of purity and excellence. In fact, Domaine du Rochoy, one of the finest vineyards in the appellation, supplies high-quality grapes with incredible mineral expression from Silex soils, one of Sancerre's rarest terroirs.

Domaine Laporte produces many wines but the most popular choices are: a floral and citrus-scented Sauvignon Blanc, a Cabernet-Franc offering soft hints of spice, and a fruity Pinot Noir. Featuring very high-quality fruit, these are versatile wines – a perfect introduction to Loire Valley wines and the Laporte style.
